Tacos y Tacones gala celebrates more than four decades of assisting Latinofamilies
The ballroom of the InterContinental Houston Hotel resonated with the spirit of Latinos helping Latinos on Saturday night as the Association for the Advancement of Mexican Americans (AAMA) celebrated 41 years of service in the Houston community.
The evening's program, led by AAMA executive director Beatrice Garza and emcee KPRC Ch. 2 news anchorAnthony Yanez, emphasized the importance of AAMA's education and outreach programs, particularly in a time of educational budget cuts.
The Tacos y Tacones (a playful alliteration meaning tacos and high heels) gala was chaired by Julie and Oscar Garza with Laura Jaramillo working to add to the success in her role as AAMA development board chair. Auction chair Martha Navarro beamed over the success of that fundraising initiative.
Among the 400 guests dining and dancing to the sounds of Mango Punch were Drew Wilson, Rick Jaramillo, Dolores and Raul Dominguez, Rebecca and Dave Roberts, Linda Gonzalez and Roland Rodriguez, Judy and Wayne McConnell and Martha and Demetrius Navarro.
