Top leaders celebrate opening of exhibit tracing Houston Ship Channel's first 100 years
What: Opening reception for Stories of a Workforce: Celebrating the Centennial of the Houston Ship Channel.

The 411: Top government leadership and more than 200 interested parties turned out for the unveiling of the multi-media exhibition saluting the men and women who built the port of Houston and who keep it going today. Houston Arts Alliance’s Folklife + Traditional Arts program and the Houston Public Library are presenting the exhibition, which will be on view through January 2015.
Houston Pilots is presenting sponsor of the exhibition that includes not only interviews and stories but also photo, audio and video installations as well as maps, memorabilia and even work gear.
Who: Joining in the program were Harris County Judge Ed Emmett, Mayor Annise Parker, Port Commission chair Janiece Longoria, Houston Public Library director Rhea Brown Lawson, HAA president and CEO Jonathon Glus and HAA director of Folklife + Traditional Arts Pat Jasper. Heavy hitters included six city council members and Promote Houston Ship Channel 2014 chairman Tom Kornegay and committee members Tom Tellepsen and Capt. Bill Diehl, and Capt. Mike Morris, presiding officer of Houston Pilots.
