Robert Del Grande and Dean Fearing team up for super supper with Charley Pride,Gary Morris and more
We want to suggest that uber chefs Robert Del Grande and Dallas' Dean Fearing take over every country club dining room in the city. And we're pretty sure that everyone dining at the "Best Cellars Celebrity Dinner" at River Oaks Country Club the other night would agree.
Those two stars of the culinary world had 150 guests swooning over the four-course feast that they jointly prepared for this first annual gourmet dinner benefiting M.D. Anderson Cancer Center researchers and the T.J. Martell Foundation. "Best Cellars" dinners, which began in Nashville, are held around the country, sponsored by the foundation, and enriched by the presence of well-known country music stars and local celebrities.
On this evening, Charley Pride, Lee Ann Womack, Gary Morris, Lee Roy Parnell and hunky Christian Kane (starring with Timothy Hutton in TNT's Leverage) sat down with various guests to the amazing dinner. Rounding out the celebrity tables were Houston Texans tight end Joel Dreessen, former Houston Astros manager Phil Garner andsoprano Barbara Padilla. The ever-handsome Storme Warren, host of Sirius/XM's Highway 16 Radio Music Row Happy Hour, served as emcee.
Don't miss this charity event next year. The program was short and to the point, the celebrities engaging and personable, the atmosphere more private dinner party than stuffy benefit dinner. And the food and wine were over the top. Thank the "table wine hosts" for bringing out the good stuff from their personal cellars for diners who had paid a minimum $750 each for the privilege.
Wine host Franelle Rogers bested practically every table in the room with her generous sharing of Kistler Chardonnay, Louis Latour Corton Charlemagne, Chateau Lynch-Bages (2003) and Chateau d'Yquem (2003), plus four other wines. It was similar good fortune for those dining at the tables where Nancy Ames and Danny Ward, Mimi and Tom Dompier, Jeanie and Jim Janke and nearly a dozen others served as wine hosts. Of course, Bear Dalton, Spec's wine manager, did his part to keep the vintage stuff flowing.
In addition to wowing guests with their culinary talents — loved the chicken-fried quail on sweet corn pan stuffing and the buffalo tenderloin — Del Grande and Fearing entertained guests with their musical talents performing country tunes in their popular Barbed Wires group. RDG + Bar Annie and Fearing's in Dallas might have been minus their head toques on this night but that loss was Best Cellars gain.
Among those soaking up the culinary riches were Marilyn and George DeMontrond, Butch and Paula Robinson, Michelle and Frank Hevrdejs, Julie Brown, Connie and Roger Plank, Laura and George Pontikes, Roni and Doug Atnipp and Ruby and Jim Bloodworth. Totally good sports were Laura and John Arnold, who stuck to their vegetarian regimen despite the incredibly tempting non-vegan dishes.
