Say hello to Houston's shopping paradise? Nutcracker Market goes coconuts over the Pacific in new surprise
Think coconuts not mistletoe and leave those Christmas sweaters at home! This year's Houston Ballet Nutcracker Market cruises in an entirely unexpected direction — "Nutcracker Market in Paradise."
We're not sure where the toy soldier decor and all the glamorous holiday decorations will fit in with the resort wear and floral leis that we understand are part of the market team's plan. But we are certain that the merchandise will be as yummy as ever when the 34th annual market opens on Nov. 13.
Getting a jumpstart on the beachcomber vibe were members of the Nutcracker Market committee, who gathered in full luau regalia at RDG + Bar Annie to stir up enthusiasm. They dressed in Lilly Pulitzer style ensembles with visions of palm trees and flamingos dancing in their heads. Market chair Cecilia Campbell actually had flamingos dancing on her head.
Key players in the upcoming multi-million dollar market are kickoff party chairs Jana Arnoldy and Rachel Regan; luncheon chairs Jo Furr and Vicki Kanaly; brunch chairs Cynthia Christ, Megan Kessler and Tracey Williford and after-market celebration chair Wendy Burks.
Donning silk floral leis and perhaps humming Don Ho tunes rather than Jingle Bells were committee members Karen Hartnett, Tami Crosby, Sharon Erskine, Vanessa Sendukas, Anne Graubart, Kari Parsons, Gaylon Gullquist, Karen Hartnett, Cheryl Gallagher, Cynthia Brown and Evelyn Leightman.
