$2 million in community outreach makes these fetching ladies major charity players
The Junior League of Houston kicked off its calendar year, closely tied to the school year, of volunteerism and community leadership with its annual fall "Opening Style Show" featuring fashions from the Elizabeth Anthony/Esther Wolf Collection.
Both the Thursday luncheon and dinner presentations filled the Junior League ballroom with patrons, members and fashion fans who regularly turn out for the parade of elegant designs, a fair share of ballgowns included, modeled by fetching Junior League members.
With more than 5,000 active members and sustainers, the non-profit each year pumps more than $2 million in trained volunteer time and direct financial support to 38 community agencies including Texas Children's Hospital, AIDS Foundation Houston, Star of Hope and Baylor College of Medicine Teen Health Clinic.
Leading the season-opener for the Junior League of Houston were League president Marian Hilpert, development vice president Rachel Regan, Tea Room director Tanya Leiber and special events chair Courtney Culver.
