Talk was all about summer travels, fall fashion and serious jewelry at Tootsies as the social swans made their return to the scene from their annual hejira to cooler climes. The Dec My Room benefit luncheon, in only its third year, has fast become the first must-do charity event of the season.
Applause, applause to Dec My Room founder Susan Plank and her annual line-up of stellar chairs, this year the leadership task falling on the able and attractive shoulders of Millette Sherman and Megan Sutton-Reed. They rounded upa glam collection of fasion mavens, many young moms who easily identified with the non-profit's mission.
Since its founding 2007 by Susan and her teenage daughter, Kendall, Dec My Room has creatively personalized more than 500 hospital rooms in Houston for seriously ill children facing long periods of treatment. Their work began at Texas Children's Hospital and has expanded to M.D. Anderson and hospitals in Boston and Los Angeles.
Last year, KPRC Channel 2 news anchor Dominique Sachse joined Susan and Sue Smith in decorating in a disco theme the room of a young leukemia patient. Channel 2 cameras rolled as they surprised the teen with her dazzling temporary home. Dominique shared her experience and the video with the group of 200.
Regulars at this fashion fete that annually features a Best of Tootsies runway show were proprietor Mickey Rosmarin, who noted that he was trés impressed with the striking group of women attending, and jewelry designer Katherine Le, decked out in emeralds and diamonds. Once again, she donated one of her spectacular pieces for the raffle.
Setting a strong fashion pace for the season were Meredith O'Meara, Lauri Krome, Alissa Maples, Kiki Wilson, Vicki Rizzo, Brittney Tribble, Laurel Blando, Kara Childress, Gina Bhatia, DeeDee Guggenheim, Laurie Morian, Rosemary Schatzman, Jessica Rossman and Renee Teebo.
