Drag divas and stylish scenesters toast Poitín's anniversary soirée
What: Grand opening party
Where: Poitín
The scoop: Over 250 people flocked to the Sawyer Yard restaurant to celebrate its first three months of operations. While dining on a variety of chef Dominick Lee's signature snacks — dipping the Cajun-spiced chicharrones into the hummus proved popular — guests also enjoyed a variety of libations from the bar, including cocktails made with Grey Goose vodka, Tanqueray 10 gin, and Plantation 3 Star rum, plus beer selections from Holler Brewery and Green Flash Brewing Co., and a first-rate Santa Julia sparkling rosé.
Before the party could even think about slowing down, Blackberri and friends entertained the crowd with an epic drag show. Applause, applause to Ondi, who performed in a stunning white outfit and to Reign who followed up with a high-energy set of her own in red leather.
Four colorful art cars out front lent credence to a little undercover comedy by Secret Group performers Katie McGee and Andrew Youngblood, who hopped into conversations and told jokes while pretending to be designers contemplating a vehicle for next year's parade. The actual cars — Rickey Polidore’s Hermesillac; Randy Blair’s A Little Bit of Nonsense; Julie Bower’s Toys on the Hood; and Elizabeth Burnham’ Penelope, the one-eyed-one-horned-flying-purple-people-eater — provided the setting for lots of colorful photos.
