Wade Phillips' Super Bowl Ring
Super Bowl champ pays up on charity auction bid, his winning ring center of attention
What: Dinner with Super Bowl-winning defensive coordinator Wade Phillips.
Where: The Presidential Suite of the Omni Houston Hotel.
The scoop: The Denver Broncos coach offered himself as part of an auction item for KHOU Channel 11 sportcaster Matt Musil's November charity golf tournament at Black Horse Golf Club. The high bidder would get to have dinner with Phillips — a six-course tasting menu paired with wines — hosted by Omni food and beverage director Edward Parker with chef Franklin Thompson.
Winning bidders Courtney, Jacquelyn, Judy, and Larry Blackburn began the evening in the hotel lobby with GM Barry Sondren then moved to the Presidential Suite where Musil interviewed Phillips on location for the 6 pm newscast. The center of attention was Phillips' massive Super Bowl ring. Phillips' wife, Laurie, joined the party.
As former Houston Texans defensive coordinator and son of the late Houston Oilers coach Bum Phillips, the man of the hour holds a special place in the hearts of many Houstonians
Beneficiaries: Proceeds from the charity golf tournament benefited Career and Recover Resources, Wesley Community Center and the Bum Phillips Charities.
