Barrier Breaker luncheon beats the heat by raising $255,000 during mid-summergathering
The 16th annual Barrier Breaker luncheon, benefiting Career and Recovery Resources, turned the spotlight on community leaders De and Jeffery Rose, who were honored for their work with the homeless, the Humane Society, AIDS Foundation Houston, Star of Hope and other service organizations.
More than 425 supporters of the program that helps individuals overcome barriers to employment joined forces at the Hyatt Regency Downtown and raised $255,000 for the cause.
As Barrier Breaker honorees, the Roses were feted along with four of the agency's Star Clients, each of whom spoke on their individual paths to success. The program included presentations by Mayor Annise Parker, Career and Recovery Resources board chairman William Harmon, CEO Vernus Swisher, board member Indrani Goradia and emcee Lisa Foronda.
The impressive crowd included Congresswoman Sheila Jackson Lee, Mayor Pro-Tem Ed Gonzales, Sheriff Adrian Garcia, City Councilwoman Melissa Noriega, Constable Derrick Rose, Jeff Love, Susie and Mel Glasscock, Molly and Jim Crownover, Sharon Owens, Judge Clarease Yates and Cary Yates.
