Remembering Bum
Luv Ya Blue days revisited when famed Houston Oiler salutes legacy of head coach Bum Phillips
Famed Houston Oilers quarterback Dan Pastorini rounded up a passel of his former teammates for a special evening at the new B&B Butchers & Restaurant saluting the memory of legendary head coach Bum Phillips, who passed away in 2013. This year marks the 40th anniversary of Phillips first year with the Oilers and Pastorini decided a celebration was in order.
The evening in the second floor party room at B&B served as a fundraiser for the Dan Pastorini Charity with monies going to support Bum Phillips Retreat Center & Camp, which hosts Camp Heart Sign, a summer camp for deaf children.
Pastorini took the opportunity to announce his plans to bring a one-night-only performance of the Bum Phillips: All-American Opera to the Stafford Centre on Sept. 24.
B&B owner Benjamin Berg was on hand to welcome Pastorini and the Luv Ya Blue gang which included Robert Woods, Andy Dorris, Mike Barber, Willie Alexander, Al Johnson, Gregg Bingham and John Schumacher. Special guest was Phillips' widow, Debbie Phillips.
Savoring the steakhouse delicacies while saluting the Oilers were KHOU Channel 11 sports anchor Bob Allen, Annie Amante, Christian Boehm, Jaelyn Thurner, Nicole and Ashton Stresau, KPRC Channel 2 news anchor Rachel McNeil and Dr. Wayne Franklin, Carolyn Farb, Lance Livingston, Francoise and Mickey Henry, Andy Griggs and Stacia Pratt.
