Rare disease tackled with some help from Saint Arnold beer: Children’s Memorial Hermann, families step up

The 411: Friends, families and doctors of those suffering from Leigh syndrome gathered in support of research into the neurometabolic disorder. The $95,000 raised goes to the UT Mitochondrial Center of Excellence at Children’s Memorial Hermann Hospital. Guests supped on barbecue from Goode Company, washed down with Saint Arnold brewskies, and bid on silent auction items.
Elizabeth Baker shared the story of her son who was diagnosed with Leigh syndrome as a toddler and is currently under the care of the clinic. Clinic director Dr. Mary Kay Koenig was among the 175 guests.
