Louis Vuitton and Museum of Fine Arts, Houston team up to honor James Turrell at stylish party
The cultural partnership between Louis Vuitton and the Museum of Fine Arts, Houston that launched in November continued in style over the weekend when the French luxury retailer welcomed artist James Turrell and MFAH friends to the Galleria store in celebration of the opening of James Turrell: The Light Inside.
Most of those who gathered amid the iconic LV handbags and luggage had attended the exhibition preview dinner the night before at the MFAH and continued to buzz about the dramatic light environments created by Turrell.
The MFAH partnership goes hand-in-hand with Louis Vuitton's patronage of the light artist. In May, the luxury house introduced its third commissioned work by Turrell —Akhob at the new Louis Vuitton store in Las Vegas' CityCenter. It is the artist's largest ganzfeld (total emersion) creation in the world and is available for viewing by appointment only. A compelling ganzfeld, End Around, installation can be seen in the Houston exhibition.
Guests joining the party that saluted both Turrell and his wife, Kyung Turrell, were MFAH director Gary Tinterow, Hiram Butler and Andrew Spindler-Roesle, Gail and Louis Adler, John Slavinsky, Kim Harrington, Kathy and Marty Goossen, Carla Knobloch, Cyvia and Melvin Wolff, Anne-Sophie Rosseel and Hervé Descottes, Leslie Tyler Fink and Randy Fink.
