Carnaval hits Houston: Young visionaries rock Brazilian-themed party
From caipirinhas to a colorful street fair, the scene at photographer Joe Akers' home/gallery was all about Brazil as two groups supporting Baylor College of Medicine Teen Health Clinics partied at Night Vision 4 — A Carnaval of Art.
The Foundation for Teen Health and Young Visionaries of Houston pulled together an artful evening that featured works of three photographers — Alexandra Nemeth, Kathy Oliver and Laszlo Perlaky. A portion of proceeds from sales of their works went to the Teen Health Clinics which serve 26,000 young people each year.
Applause, applause for chairs Megan Sunday and Jennifer Vallone in the lively night that featured music performed by the Will Van Horn Trio, yummy street fare from Eatsie Boys and a robust bar featuring those caipirinhas, the national drink of Brazil. Applause also for auction chairs Beth Bryant and Paige Passmore, who orchestrated the enticing market of bidding opportunities in both live and silent auctions.
Hasti Taghi and Edward Sanchez loaned their support by serving as emcees and auctioneers.
In a carnaval mood were Edgar Medina, Dustin Brackney, Beverle and Marc Ostrofsky, Joe and Heidi Krothe, Chloe Hotze, Dr. Codi Wiener, Dr. Peggy Smith, Lee Mitchell and Audrey Drought-Mitchell.
