Young professionals party
Free beer for a year just one of the perks of CultureMap's Mixer on the Map
Fabian Segura will probably never forget CultureMap's Mixer on the Map, held Tuesday night. An operations manager for Laura U Interior Design Houston and supporter of Young Neighbors, he was the lucky guy out of 200-plus attendees to win a year's supply of free brewskies, courtesy of beer sponsor Batch 19.
On Tuesday, Segura and other young professionals filled the bumpin' banquet room at Hotel Derek, where a full bar and DJ kept the night feeling right. In the spotlight were four non-profit groups spreading the good word: SEARCH Homeless Services, Friends for Life, Young Neighbors and the Holocaust Museum Houston's Next Generation.
Hotel Derek staff and executive chef Shannen Tune kept the evening rolling with a strategic schedule for introducing various foods to the eager crowd. From savory to sweet, some of the favorites included jalapeno- and truffle-flavored popcorns, hangover sliders — a regular burger slider topped with fried egg and bacon (yum!) — and crab cake sliders. After the savory, out came the sweets, including house-baked blue and pink cotton candy — served in martini glasses with black sugar on the rim — various cake pops and more popcorn, this time with sugary flavorings.
Whether or not they made the scene to support a cause or a best friend or just to have a good time, the YPs included Meredith Wierick, Jessica Mooney, Mary Burtner, Jay and Anat Zeidman, Carlos Paz, Brooke Haney, Lauren Daily, Danielle Markey, Adam Roberts, Marie Kniedler, Scott Lipshutz, Danielle White, Chris Parker, Jessica Jones, Ariel Montgomery and Isaac Spencer.
