The scoop: University of Texas football star, 1998 Heisman Trophy winner, and NFL running back Ricky Williams shared his story of overcoming depression and social anxiety disorder and told how the stigma of mental illness delayed his efforts to get help. ESPN sportcaster Chris Fowler conducted the interview.
The luncheon, honoring Rob Wilson, raised $575,000 for Menninger's work in mental health treatment, education, and research. Both Dr. Edward Coffey, Menninger president and CEO, and Robin Gibbs lauded Wilson for his many years of volunteerism and service to Menninger.
Gibbs and his wife, Lela, joined Carol and Allen Lyons as luncheon chairs.
