Where: The Post Oak
The scoop: A crowd of more than 300 gathered to celebrate leaders of S.T.E.A.M. (Science – Technology – Engineering – Arts – Mathematics) at the ritzy Post Oak. A comical mad scientist greeted guests as they arrived while the orchestra played “Liftoff and Separation.” The scene also included San Antonio artist Franco Mondini Ruiz who donated an 8-foot-by-8-foot original creation and painted more than 20 portraits of partygoers as they watched. As tradition, the student orchestra increased in intensity through the night, and the evening was energized when as steam billowed from the stage and the two maestros, Franz Krager and Andrzej Grabiec entered in lab coats.
The evening honored Gordon Bethune, Walter Cunningham, David Dewhurst, Sidney Evans, Monzer Hourani, Dr. Renu Khator, Dr. John Mendelsohn, Sybil Roos and Margaret Alkek Williams. The event was co-chaired by Patti Murphy, Roland Maldonado, MD and Elina Htun.
