Luxury Handbag Frenzy
Purse fever: Luxury handbags snapped up in a frenzy as Dominique Sachse looks on
With more energy than shoppers at a Filene's basement sale, 450 gals and a sprinkling of guys charged through the Omni Houston Hotel lobby ready to bid on some 200 designer handbags during the popular Heroes & Handbags fundraiser.
"You all were like you were on crack," quipped honorary chair Dominique Sachse as she addressed the luncheon crowd. "I hope you got the bag you wanted."
Diane Caplan chaired the event that brought in more than $230,000 for Heroes for Children, the non-profit that provides financial and social assistance to families with children suffering with cancer. Sharing their stories and explaining the mission were Heroes for Children founders, Larissa Linton and Jenny Dowen, both of whom lost children to cancer. Heroes for Children volunteer Christina Papandreou received the Spirit of Allie & Taylor Award for her support of the charity.
But before the luncheon took on its serious note, it was shopping fun and more fun as guests sipped mimosas and lighter beverages and bid on the coveted handbags. Some of the auction items were brand new such as the cache of bags from Elaine Turner and Tory Burch and others were donated from fashionista closets. Among the offerings were a purple Louis Vuitton bag donated by Diane Lokey Farb, a Valentino bag from Lynn Wyatt's stash and a Barbara Bui donated by Becca Cason Thrash.
Applause, applause for handbag chairs Lori Geshay and Todd Ramos who pulled together the enticing collection of must-have bags.
Among the chic shoppers were Tatiana Massey, Cherie Flores, Tiffany Halik, Reyne Hirsch, Amy Lee, Fady Armanious, Ting Bresnahan, Donae Chramosta, Patti Murphy, Jeff Shell, Alissa Maples, Tod Eason, Virginia Steppe, Chad Miller, Joanna Marks, Hannah McNair and Christie Sullivan.
