Matt Schaub, J.J. Watt, Roger Clemens and 30 more sports celebs mix it up at "Gathering of Champions"
The night before they hit the field in preparation for the fall season, Houston Texans stars mixed with NBA greats, Houston Dynamo luminaries and other sports celebs during the Houston Children's Charity "Gathering of Champions."
Partying at the annual bash, held poolside at Tilman and Paige Fertitta's vast River Oaks estate, were 34 sports celebs, including Matt Schaub, J.J. Watt, Andre Johnson, Dynamos Michael Chabala and Brian Ching. Rounding out the mix were a number of past heroes of the playing fields including NBA Hall of Famers Calvin Murphy and Elvin Bethea, former Astro Larry Dierker and former NFL running back Joe Washington.
Guests strolled the resort-esque grounds on the banks of Buffalo Bayou, supped on manly fare from Landry's restaurants and had their moments with the likes of Roger Clemens, Ray Childress and Chester Pitts. Adding muscle to the party were former America's Strongest Man Travis Ortmayer and American Strongman and Texas' Strongest Cop Brian Vickers.
Taking bows for another successful sports-infused evening was Houston Children's Charity executive director Laura Ward, who organized the $1,000 a person event.
Sports fans on the scene included Mindy and Jeff Hildebrand, John Havens, Dancie Ware, Norelle and Brian Becker, Janice and Tad Brown, Perry and Dan D'Armond, Penny and Paul Loyd, Marianne and Bob Ivany, Gary Becker with Kellie Letsos, Otis Peavy and David Huntington.
