Cattle Barons have a boot scootin' good time, raise $1 million for AmericanCancer Society
Even after 24 years of partying at the George Ranch out Richmond way, the women who put on the Cattle Baron's Ball each spring are still bringing in the seven-figure totals for the American Cancer Society. Case in point was Saturday night's "Stargazing on the Brazos" benefit that raised more than $1 million.
Some 1,200 guests in their finest western threads — read that loads of suede, fringe and spangles — gathered in the ranch party barn for a lively night of dining, dancing, auctions and various games. Highlight each year are the pig races with the casino games and midway games coming in at a close second for night-long entertainment. Of course, grazing through the bountiful offerings from Pappas Catering provided energy for all the activities. Keeping a close watch on all the action was gala chair Jean Frazer.
Auction chairs Diane Cain and Joan Dunlap regularly surveyed the increasing numbers on the big boards and the live and silent auction items.
The big fun of the night began when Gene Watson and the Farewell Party Band took the stage for plenty of boot scootin' fun.
Among those stepping out in western style were Victory president Laura Hand, Susie and Scott Bender, Jackie and Monty Eubank, Diane and Harry Stout, Perri and Dan D'Armond, Skip Wagner, JoAnn Petersen with Mike King, Cindy and Dennis Laviage, Bill Frazer, David Hand and Cynthia and Edward Urquhart.
Victory is a fundraising arm of the American Cancer Society. Each year the volunteer group sponsors Cattle Baron's and the Holiday Shopping Card.
