April In Paris
It's April in Paris at Da Camera gala with French fare, music and ooh-la-la decor
What:Da Camera of Houston "April in Paris" gala.
Where:The Corinthian.
The 411: It was music, music, music throughout the night as the black-tie crowd of 300 savored the sounds of chanteuse Danielle Reich and her trio, a performance by three of Da Camera's Young Artists (mezzo-soprano Teresa Procter, baritone Elliott Hines and violinist Jackson Guillen) and Da Camera general and artistic director Sarah Rothenberg's turn at the piano. Add to that a performance of "April in Paris" and "I Love Paris in the Springtime" by jazz pianist Jose-Miguel Yamal. The latter was a surprise for honoree Claudia Hatcher, dressed in Parisian grandeur in a couture gown by Dior.
Page Kempner and Heidi and David Gerger chaired the gala that featured a French-inspired meal (think boeuf en croute and crepes Suzette a l'orange) from the kitchen of Jackson and Co.
Further transporting guests to Paris is the springtime was the ebullient decor by Bergner & Johnson — profusions of overhead cherry blossoms with twinkling lights, a cast-stone fountain surrounded by boxwood and flowers galore.
