Hotel ZaZa embraces an Asian esthetic during the International Festival Mayor'sGala
The Houston International Festival's spring salute to the Asian continent kicked off with a colorful start at Hotel ZaZa on Wednesday with the annual Mayor's Gala, "The Silk Road Across Asia."
Beyond the greetings and salutes to dignitaries and elected officials, the evening was laced with cultural moments from across the continent including a performance by the Golden Dragon Acrobats and the Bollywood blast by the Anjali Indian Dancers, both of which will be performing during the festival which runs Friday through Sunday and May 7-8.
Mayor Annise Parker and iFest chairman Harry Gee presided over the cocktail-attire evening that was chaired by Aubrey and Gene Locke, Parvin and Marty McVey, Trini Mendenhall Sosa and Frank Sosa and Ming and Don Wang.
Philamena Baird, who has been more active in community fundraising and gala organization than just about anyone else in the city, was recognized by Mayor Parker with the second annual Mayor's Award for International Arts & Culture.
Among the guests were Melissa King, Karen and Roland Garcia, Jacqueline Chaumette, Minnette Boesel, Rick Mitchell, Mandy Kao, Catherine Le, Sonia Soto, Jonathon Glus and Alton LaDay.
