$1.2 Million Dinner
KIPP Houston scores high in scholastics and fundraising with $1.2 million dinner
Defying all odds, H-Town's fundraising continues — at least in some quarters — to soar with ease to the seven-figure mark in proceeds. Case in point, KIPP's 15th annual dinner, celebrating 22 years, that raised more than $1.2 million.
This special night saluted the heads of area private schools that have assisted with KIPP students and partnered with KIPP for the past 18 years, beginning when KIPP did not have high schools — honorees Ned Becker, Episcopal High School; Don North, The Kinkaid School; Sister Jane Meyer, St. Agnes Academy; Philip Cannon, St. John’s School; and the Rev. Brian Zinnamon (in memoriam), Strake Jesuit College Preparatory.
Continuing that train of through, serving as honorary dinner hosts were Andrew Martire, The Kinkaid School; Sister Jane Meyer, St. Agnes Academy; Mark Desjardins, St. John’s School; and the Rev. Daniel Lahart, Strake Jesuit College Preparatory.
More than 850 attended the evening that featured the talent of KIPP students including the KIPP Sharpstown College Prep Orchestra, the KIPP ZENITH primary cheerleaders, and the KIPP Houston High School Crew which performed choreographed routines.
Those guests included KIPP co-founder Mike Feinberg, Soraya and Scott McClelland, Katy Caldwell, U.S. District Judge Gregg Costa, Katie and A.J. Brass, Andrea and Bill White, Diana Davila, Barbara and Charles Hurwitz, Ellen and Bob Sanborn, Leslie and Sid Weiss, and State Reps. Alma Allen, Gilbert Pena, and Gene Wu.
