It's an Eyjafjallajokull
Stranded at the Ritz: Lynn Wyatt's Paris volcano adventure
For Lynn Wyatt, there's no place like home.
Nearly two weeks ago, Houston's international goodwill ambassador had stopped in Paris on her way to Belgrade to attend a weekend birthday celebration for Princess Ira von Fürstenberg hosted by Crown Prince Alexander II of Serbia and his wife, Crown Princess Katherine. Weekend activities included a birthday dinner party at the Royal Palace, a boat trip down the Danube and another birthday party at the White Palace.
But then the Eyjafjallajokull volcano erupted in Iceland, sending cascading clouds over western Europe halting air traffic. Wyatt was stuck in Paris for seven days before she finally made it back to Houston. But don't feel too sorry for her — she was holed up in the Ritz hotel.
"It's not a hard place to make lemonade out of lemons," Wyatt joked.
Her Houston travel agent finally got her on a Continental flight and also reserved a seat for her on an Air France flight to Houston, as a just-in-case backup. Good thing the travel agent thought ahead, because the Continental flight was cancelled.
"I came home and got her a present," a thankful Wyatt said.
