KIPP fundraiser rakes in $1.5 million and a shout out from the world's richest man
What:KIPP Houston Public Schools' 21st annual dinner, "To Infinity and Beyond."

The 411: With a performance by the KIPP Generations Collegiate High School Marching Band and Drumline, the annual fundraising event was off to a rousing start. Add the video message from billionaire philanthropists Melinda and Bill Gates and the cachet of dinner chairs Katie and A.J. Brass and Stephanie and Ernie Cockrell Jr. and you had an event guaranteed to succeed.
And well it did, bringing in a whopping $1.5 million for the charter school system with a proven success record. Keynote speaker was Retired Navy Adm. William H. McRaven, chancellor of the University of Texas System.
