Gorillas Join Million Dollar Zoo Ball
Black-tie Zoo Ball brings formality and more than $1 million in proceeds while gorillas frolic
What: Houston Zoo Ball.
Where: The Houston Zoo's Mashiara Pavilion.
The scoop: Despite the drizzly weather, ball chairs Cathy and Joe Cleary managed to bring the total raised at the black-tie evening to $1.08 million. The evening honored former zoo CEO Deborah Cannon and the Memorial Hermann Health System, represented by Dan Wolterman. Houston Zoo's CEO and president Lee Ehmke shared in heaping praise on the honorees.
With entertainment that included visits with the zoo's popular gorilla families, dinner by City Kitchen and music by Party on the Moon, there was no way that rain drops could put a damper on the enthusiasm of the 533 guests.
Who: Auction chair Anita O'Shaughnessy, Gardner Cannon, Ileana and Michael Trevino, Sue Chin, Jacqueline Levett-Prinsep and Sam Cole, Claudia and Roberto Contreras, Annette and George Strake, Molly and Coert Voorhees, and Rachel McNeill with Dr. Wayne Franklin.
