Bull on the lawn: Bevo hits River Oaks and the University of Texas mascot parties with Hall of Famers
University of Texan Longhorn mascot Bevo was in good hands Saturday afternoon, surrounded by 200 members of the Silver Spurs Alumni Association who gathered at the River Oaks home of Nicole and Jim Purdue for the annual reunion and Hall of Fame Induction. The Silver Spurs, as many know, is the honorary student group responsible for caring for the longhorn steer.
Successful businessmen Robin French and Alan Dreeben were inducted into the Hall of Fame while the late Knox Nunnally was awarded the honor posthumously, his son, Knox "Lighthorse" Nunnally, accepting on the family's behalf.
Co-hosting the afternoon gathering with the Purdues were Silver Spurs Alumni Association executive committee members Daniel Horowitz, Ricky Brennes and Patrick Ryan. Proceeds from the event are earmarked for the Bevo Endowment, which covers expenses for Bevo's care and provides scholarships and contributions to the after-school tutoring program, Neighborhood Longhorns.
The party crowd included Cindy and Dr. Jay Carter, Kristin and Ryan Epps, Courtney and Justin Gilbert, Leslie and Andy Heins, Tommy Servos, Desiree and Josh Lebar, Lindsay and Jordan Hirsch and Aimee and Ross Langley.
We're just glad that the beef on the hoof was in the front yard because in the backyard around the pool, Goode Company Barbecue served up its familiar beefy specialties.
