Craig Biggio, Steve Tyrell headline lawn party for Pink Ribbons Project
The "Pink on the Green" dinner benefit, held in the meadow at The Houstonian on Sunday, wasn't necessarily planned with a duo of heavy-hitter celebrities as the big draw but it did happen that headliners Craig Biggio and Steve Tyrell were serious party magnets.
After all, who could turn down the opportunity to rub elbows with a baseball great or to be entertained by a hometown music star?
Of course, the six couples honored by the Pink Ribbons Project added their share of allure to the successful evening co-chaired by Patty Biggio and Craigand Mary and Tony Gracely. Honored as "Pink Pairs" were couples who have faced the challenges of breast cancer — Kelli and Eddy Blanton, Jeannie and Greg Frazier, Margie and Bin Halverson, Jayne and Jack Kendall, Rosanne and David Oelfke and Sandy and Doug Ustick.
Sunday was a perfect night for an outdoor event, the party gods clearly having smiled on the organization dedicated to helping the under-served with mammograms and related assistance and to improving the quality of life of those touched by breast cancer.
Houston Astros voice Milo Hamilton emceed the evening that included a concert on the lawn by Tyrell, who crooned his popular standards. A few of those love songs might have been directed to his new love — our town's Karen Pulaski. Eat your hearts out, ladies. The two are absolutely inseparable.
