Houstonians party like Capote at red-hot, record-breaking Black & White Ball
What: Society for the Performing held their Black & White Ball
Where: Wortham Center
The scoop: Society for the Performing Arts celebrated 50 years of bringing culture to Houston with their Black & White Ball at the Wortham Center Grand Foyer. The black-tie event was reminiscent of the "Party of the Century" hosted by Truman Capote in New York City in 1966.
Chairs for the night raising over $500,000 were Mary Ann and David McKeithan and Cheryl and Sam Byington. Other honorees included honorary chair Margaret Alkek Williams; community honorees Rini and Edward Ziegler; and corporate honoree, H-E-B.
More than 400 guests enjoyed cocktails and canapés while perusing the silent auction. Jackson & Co created a fabulous three-course meal and Rebekah Johnson created an over the top elegant room with cascading crystal chandeliers and beautiful towering sprays of orchids and roses on the tables. Guests were mesmerized by the exciting performances of the cast of Chicago, dancing to Empire 6 and the after party. Auctioneer extraordinaire, Jeff Smith, raised a record-breaking number from the fabulous auction curated by Yasmine Haddad.
