Beloved Houston chef hosts ultimate Sunday supper boasting rock star talent
What: Urban Harvest Sunday Supper
Where: Kiran's
The scoop: A sold-out crowd of almost 200 patrons filled the Upper Kirby restaurant for an epic feast prepared by some of Houston's top chefs: David Cordúa (Michael and David Cordúa Hospitality), Dominick Lee (Poitín), Drake Leonards (Eunice), Martin Stayer (Nobie's), Jody Stevens (Jodycakes), and host chef Kiran Verma.
Served family-style, the meal celebrated the same locally sourced, seasonal produce that Urban Harvest sells at its weekly farmers market at St. John's School. Verma led the way with her curry red fish; Lee's butter beans, Leonard's roasted root vegetables, Cordúa's pani-puri tacos, Stayer's wagyu ragu pasta, and Stevens' strawberry cake also earned raves.
The local nonprofit organization contributes to Houston's civic life by providing community garden programming, farmers markets, gardening classes, and youth education. Planning is already underway for the organization's 25th anniversary party on November 2. Details are still under wraps, but expect it to showcase many of the chefs who have shopped at the market over the years.
