Houston Children's Museum gets a boost from the heartfelt words of kids
Internationally-acclaimed clinical psychologist and New York Times best-selling author Dr. Wendy Mogel offered much wisdom along with wit as she spoke to nearly 400 guests at the Children's Museum of Houston annual Friends & Families Luncheon.
The 20th anniversary luncheon at River Oaks Country Club was chaired by KTRK Channel 13 news anchor Gina Gaston Elie and Dr. Kelli Cohen Fein, both of whom have youngsters who well know their way around the popular museum.
Mogel based her remarks on her latest book, The Blessing of a B Minus, and encouraged parents to focus on raising children who can grow into resilient, optimistic adults. The $124,000 raised at the luncheon will benefit the museum's childhood and parenting programs.
While KTRK Channel 13 anchorIlona Carson served as emcee, it was the invocations by Gina's daughter, Lauren, and Kelli's children, Isaac and Jordan, that provided the most heartfelt moment of the day.
The luncheon group included 2014 luncheon chairs Kristen Berger and Marcia Smart plus Melissa Mithoff, Stephanie Cockrell, Aliyya Stude, Millette Sherman, Tiffany Smith, Liz Deaton, Kathryn Fay, Liz Rotan, Aliyya Stude, Millette Sherman, Sarah Pesikoff, Tiffany Smith, Krystal Crane Thompson and Hillary Stratton.
