Houston's mudbug heaven: The crawfish were finger lickin' good and the music wasspicy
It's springtime in Houston and that means that along with the budding trees, the crawfish boils are popping out all over. First on our radar this season was the Young Urban Professionals of Easter Seals that turned the Firehouse Saloon into mudbug central on Sunday afternoon.
More than 300 young and restless arrived at the honky tonk to chow down on deliciously spicy fare from The Crawfish Man (Greg Drouin) and dance to the country sounds of Cooper Wade. Thank you, LA Blue Crab Co. for bringing in loads of crawfish that were served traditionally with potatoes and corn on the cob.
It was such a beautiful day that most of the partygoers hung out on the patio where they could see Drouin cooking up his magical brew on his customized trailer rig.
Granite Properties was title sponsor for the day that proved to be a major success for Easter Seals of Greater Houston. A poignant moment came when Wade sang a song that he had written for his daughter, Anna, 8, who has cerebral palsy, one of the disabilities under the Easter Seals umbrella.
Up to their elbows in crawfish shells were Bellaire City Councilman Corbett Parker, Houston City Councilwoman Brenda Stardig, Channel 13 KTRK reporter Miya Shay, Sonia Soto, Catarina Cron, Courtenay Siegfried, Charlotte Young, Brent Reed, Alissa Ritter, Dr. Victor Portillo, Laura Espinoza and Diana Dao.
