Thinking green
West U parks get major boost from power players, including a Texans star: Houston's green paradise?
The vibe was civic pride in the ballroom of the Omni Houston Hotel when West University neighbors and friends came together in support of that community's green spaces at the 24th annual Park Lovers' Ball.
More than 675 black-tie attired guests were seeing green as they partied through the park-themed night that raised more than $439,000 for the West University Place Parks Fund Inc. Monies raised by the Friends of West University Place Park Funds are being used to replace trees lost by Hurricane Ike and the drought, to build a new fence around the community center and to fund new signage.
Co-chairs Michele and Charles Still, Adrienne and William Vanderbloemen and Christi and John Young organized the evening that recognized Sue and Gary Hanna as honorary chairs.
Part of the evening fun revolved around perusal of the 150 auction and big board offerings. Among those were the South Africa photo safari donated by West U resident Tamsyn Fricker of Travel Artistry Africa, a Houston Texans training experience and the dinner for 14 at Tiny's No. 5 with Megan and Brian Cushing. The Texans star and his wife were among the guests.
The partying crowd dancing to the tunes of DJ SeeBass included Robin and Steve Murray, Tara and David Wuthrich, Ting and John Bresnahan, Helen and Phillipo Wright, Gina and Charles Fertitta, Crystal and Randy Wright and Tracy and Amy Larson.
