Heavy hitters celebrate the great outdoors at Houston Wilderness' 10thanniversary luncheon
The heavy hitters turned out in force for Houston Wilderness' 10th anniversary celebration, beginning with keynote speakers former Secretary of State James A. Baker and Silver Eagle Distributors CEO John Nau.
It was a sellout crowd in the ballroom of River Oaks Country Club where luncheon chairs Elizabeth and Alan Stein welcomed emcee Carter Smith, executive director of the Texas Parks & Wildlife Department, and John Cronin, Houston Wilderness CEO.
Cronin spoke on the organization's goal of bridging business, government and area conservation groups in an effort to work together to protect and preserve the region's ecological systems and natural environments.
In that vein, Mayor Annise Parker took the podium to discuss the Sam Houston Greenbelt, a 650-mile loop encircling Houston, passing through 11 counties, and providing bicycling, hiking, paddling and equestrian trails. When completed, it is expected to be the largest contiguous trail in any major city.
Following the speeches, the crowd joined in a game of wilderness trivia. Among those attempting to answer the questions on the big screen were Bobbie Nau, Susan Baker, Roxann Neumann, Javier Loya, Janice McNair, Keith Mosing, Beth Robertson, Fred Bauhof, Catherine Mosbacher, Susie and Sanford Criner, Penny Butler, Dennis Murphree, Deborah Cannon and Paula Harris.
