Raising more than $1 million at luncheon, Neighborhood Centers expands its reach
What:Neighborhood Centers "Heart of Gold" luncheon.

The scoop: There were several moving parts to the luncheon that raised more than $1 million for programs that provide resources, connection and education to nearly 600,000 individuals throughout Texas. Chaired by Bob Flexon, the event honored Dr. Bobbi and Vic Samuels with the Alice Graham Baker Award for their commitment to the Houston community.
Highlight of the luncheon was the discussion between Ford Foundation president and CEO Darren Walker and New York Times contributing op-ed writer David Kirp. Walker grew up just outside of Houston and is the 10th president of the foundation which is one of the largest private grant-maker organizations in the country. They talked about the value of investing in people and ideas.
Neighborhood Centers CEO Angela Blanchard announced plans for groundbreaking for the new economic opportunity center in East Aldine.
