Local nonprofits, Dec My Room and Kids’ Meals, teamed up to host a night of nonstop fun at the inaugural Kick Up Your Boots for Kids fundraiser, held at Stafford’s Redneck Country Club.
Headlined by Mark Chesnutt, and chaired by Peter Remington and Karen deGeurin, the event attracted a crowd of 400 guests. The country star performed a nearly hour-long set, including his hit songs “Too Cold at Home,” “Brother Jukebox,” “I Just Wanted You to Know,” and “I’ll Think of Something,” as fans two-stepped on the dance floor.
Kicking off the evening, casually dressed partygoers enjoyed a fashion show featuring western apparel provided by Pinto Ranch. ABC13’s Katherine Whaley and Houston entertainer Johnny Bravo served as theemcees for the night. Meanwhile, Tina and Sam Governale; Shannon Hall and Marcus Sloan; Cindi and Franklin Rose; Melissa and Brad Juneau; Jennifer and Chad Pinkerton; Debbie and former MLB pitcher Roger Clemens;Pam Morse and former Houston Oilers quarterback Dan Pastorini; and several moredynamic duos struck a post on the runway.
The event also included a live auction, with a signed guitar by Chesnutt going for $3,200, fare at a Mexican food buffet, and sweet treats from Shipley’s Do-Nuts.
Kick Up Your Boots brought in a total of $200,000 — and counting — for the organizations. Dec My Room personalizes the hospital rooms of children with items that complement the likes and interests of the individual patient, while Kids’ Meals works to end childhood hunger by delivering free healthy meals to the doorsteps of Houston’s hungriest preschool-aged kids.
