Alley Theatre supporters stepped through the looking glass Thursday night for a wild ride that paralleled Alice's fantasy trek in the Alley's new production of Wonderland.
The "Wonderland Bash" at Winter Street Studios gave partygoers an opportunity to explore their inner-Alice and inner-Cheshire Cat. None did it better than make-up artist Edward Sanchez, who could surely have given Johnny Depp a run for his money. Stepping out more or less in fantasy costuming were the benefit chairs — Marcus Sloan and Shannon Hall, practically purring in their Los Gatos suits; and more conservative chairs Ursaline Hamilton, Isabel David and Elizabeth Abraham, who seemed to be dressed more in the innocent Alice mode. Except Ursaline did have those bunny ears.
Guests romped through a Queen of Hearts room, frolicked in the Alice-in-Wonderland photo booth, swayed to the sounds of DJ John Sims and sampled specialty cocktails from Beaver's mixologist Claire Sprouse. In the process, they raised $40,000 for the theater's Education and Community Engagement Department.
Monica Pope tempted the taste buds with offerings from her Plum Easy Catering while a dessert table tricked the eye with goodies that included candy heart rings and gummy caterpillars.
Joining the party were Beth Bryant, Don Mafrige Jr., Laura Casey, Rob Rutherford, Debbie Festari, Kristi Junco, Jarrod Klawinsky, Valerie Palmquist, Heather Pray, Linsay Radcliffe, Jeff Shell and Maria Vilchez.
