Houston's most glamorous gala: Anticipation builds for the party of the season — a florist's dream
With Fleurs de l'Opera as the theme for the upcoming Houston Grand Opera ball, it should be no surprise that on departure from the gala kickoff party, guests were presented with bouquets of miniature roses to accompany their save-the-date cards.
In fact, the Wortham Theater Center Grand Foyer is expected to be filled with thousands upon thousands of flowers for the April 5 soirée. The Events Co., which provided the nosegays, will be decorating the vast space for what is traditionally one of the most glamorous evenings of the season. Expect cascading flowers illuminated by crystal chandeliers.
Susan Krohn opened her River Oaks chateau for the evening during which HGO's managing director Perryn Leech and ball chair Margaret Alkek Williams shared some of those floral tidbits. Joining the chair in organizing the event are auction chairs Isabel and Danny David, wine auction co-chairs Mary and Dr. Mark D'Andrea and Valerie and Tracy Dieterich and entertainment underwriters Sue and Lester Smith. And as you know, when the Smiths are involved there are certain to be surprises, just as Leech and Williams promised.
Joining the festive early evening were guests including Michelle and Frank Hevrdejs, Drs. Lynda Chin and Ron DePinho, Danielle and John Ellis, Robin Angly and Miles Smith, Alex and Astley Blair, Susan and Dr. Dick Stasney, Terrie and Mike Turner and Anne and Albert Chao.
