Upscale Houston restaurant group fires up new casual grill in familiar East End space
A rapidly growing Houston restaurant group has opened its new, casual concept. Gatsby’s Grill is now serving lunch and dinner in the former Acadian Coast space at 2929 Navigation Blvd.
First announced in October, the expansive, 7,000-square-foot restaurant has been given a mild makeover along with TVs throughout for watching sports. An outdoor patio features fire pits and lounge-style seating.
Chef Erick Anaya’s menu offers burgers and sandwiches, salads, and heartier steak and seafood entrees. Choices include three different tacos — carnitas, shrimp, or blackened fish — Cobb salad, bolognese pasta, and chicken fried steak. The signature Anaya burger comes topped with a fried egg, bacon, garlic aioli, and pepperjack. Steak and seafood entrees, including a filet and redfish on the halfshell, may be upgraded with toppings such as crab, shrimp, or truffle butter.
Beverage options include classic cocktails, including the margarita and sangria, as well as wines by-the-glass. Beer fans will find 18 taps.
To date, Gatsby’s partners Luis Rangel and Dr. Anosh Ahmed have been focused on fine dining with their restaurants Gatsby’s Prime Steakhouse and Gatsby’s Prime Seafood. The grill gives the group a more casual, family-friendly environment. Its proximity to downtown makes it a potential happy hour spot or an option for meals before Astros and Rockets games.
“We wanted to create an unfussy, contemporary restaurant with an upscale spin on traditional menu items you would typically get at a Grill, while also paying homage to the El Segundo neighborhood, with some Latino driven offerings,” said Luis Rangel. He added, “This is a neighborhood I’ve been coming to practically my entire life, so I’m thrilled to join our culinary neighbors in this area and bring the Gatsby’s experience to this part of town.”
