Bosscat Kitchen's new sushi sister concept previews black rice rolls and more at 3-day pop-up
Houstonians will get their first taste of a new restaurant next week. Ten Sushi + Cocktail Bar will host a three-night preview October 12-14 at its sister restaurant, Bosscat Kitchen & Libations.
Slated to open in the 200 Park Place high-rise October directly across Mid Lane from Bosscat Kitchen, Ten serves sushi and sashimi alongside a pan-Asian menu of dishes that range from Japanese (tempura) to Chinese (honey walnut shrimp), and beyond. Like Bosscat, it will feature a lively atmosphere and an extensive cocktail menu.
“Ten Sushi will be a great complement to the River Oaks food scene,” co-owner John Reed tells CultureMap in an email. “We bring a lot of energy, stunning views throughout the restaurant, and a pan-Asian menu focused on small bites and delicious cocktails.”
The three-day preview will feature four of Ten’s signature dishes and its Lychee Rose cocktail. They are: VC Rock Shrimp Tempura with spicy garlic aioli; chicken gyoza with spicy soy dipping sauce; yuzu salmon with avocado; and the Forbidden Roll, a combination of seared ahi tuna, albacore, crab, spicy tuna, and avocado wrapped in black sushi rice.
“We chose these specific items for the pop-up to show a glimpse of our diversity and unique flavors,” Reed adds. “We will be the only restaurant in Houston (to my knowledge) that will showcase black sushi rice — the nuttier and heartier texture that adds a whole new element to sushi and sushi rolls.”
In addition to offering diners a sneak peek at Ten, the preview will also raise money for breast cancer research by donating $1 per item sold to The Holly Rose Ribbon Foundation. The special dishes will be a available each night from 6 pm to close (or sold out).
