Favorite Chicago hot dog shop Portillo's reveals 2 Houston locations
One of Chicago’s most famous restaurants has revealed plans to come to Houston. Portillo’s, a restaurant devoted to Chicago-style street food, announced that it will open two Houston-area locations by the end of the year.
Located at Wiilowbrook Mall and Richmond’s The Grand at Aliana shopping center, the two restaurants will be Portillo’s sixth and seventh Texas stores, joining five in the Dallas-Fort Worth area.
At a time when many fast-casual restaurants are focused on to-go, Portillo’s offers plenty of room to dine in. Richmond’s location will occupy a hefty 7,700-square-feet with interior seating for 170 people along with a 50-seat patio.
Willowbrook will receive Portillo’s slightly smaller Restaurant of the Future design. At 6,000 square feet, it will seat 130 inside and 40 on the patio. Both restaurants will feature a design style described in press materials as “a rustic Southwest garage theme” along with double drive-thrus for speedy to-go service.
Signature menu items include Chicago-style hot dogs, Italian beef sandwiches, and chocolate cake. The hot dog is a beef frank topped with mustard, relish, chopped onions, tomato, celery salt, kosher pickle, and sport peppers on a steamed poppy seed bun.
Their Italian beef features thinly sliced roast beef served on French bread, with the option to have it dry or dipped in gravy, and the double-layer chocolate cake is iced with chocolate frosting. Burgers, chicken sandwiches, salads, sides, and shakes are also available.
“We’ve loved serving our fans in the great state of Texas ever since we first opened in Dallas last January,” CEO Michael Osanloo said in a statement. “We’re thrilled to expand into Houston, and we can’t wait to bring our unrivaled Chicago street food to a brand-new market in the Lone Star State.”
Portillo’s fans can follow each location’s progress by going to Portillos.com/RichmondTX or Portillos.com/WillowbrookTX. Those who sign up for an email list may receive an invite to a free meal during pre-opening training. The restaurant is also looking for managers at portillos.com/careers.
