    Make meals simple

How to eat well all week without spending Sunday meal-prepping

    CultureMap Create
    Oct 14, 2026 | 12:09 pm

In the Houston Heights, eating well doesn’t have to mean choosing between a perfectly planned meal-prep routine and whatever happens to be easiest at the end of a long day.

For a neighborhood known for its restaurants, coffee shops and bakeries, there are plenty of ways for food-loving Heights residents to eat deliciously. The real challenge is finding options that also fit into a busy Houston schedule when the goal is something nutritious, satisfying and actually convenient.

The good news? You don’t have to spend your entire Sunday chopping vegetables and portioning out containers to make it happen.

    Start with protein
One of the easiest ways to build a more satisfying meal is to start with protein. Whether it’s breakfast before work, lunch between meetings or dinner after a workout, a protein-forward meal can help make convenience food feel more substantial.

That’s part of the appeal of Snap Kitchen, where chef-crafted meals are designed with balanced nutrition in mind. Many meals offer 30 to 40 grams or more of protein, with larger meals reaching 50 grams or more.

    Foodies will love it!

And because the meals are ready to heat and eat, getting a protein-packed dinner on the table can take minutes, not meal-prep hours.

Look beyond “healthy” on the label
Eating well isn't just about calories or macros. Increasingly, shoppers are paying attention to what actually goes into their food.

At Snap Kitchen, meals are made without gluten, seed oils or artificial additives, and the ingredient list is designed to be straightforward and easy to understand. Meals are developed by Snap’s chefs and nutrition team with an emphasis on balanced macros, protein and ingredients that make sense in a real-life diet.

For Heights residents who want the convenience of prepared food without feeling like they have to compromise on what they’re eating, that distinction matters.

Keep a few easy wins in the fridge
The secret to eating well during a busy week isn't necessarily having every meal planned. It's having a few good options available when plans inevitably change.

That might mean keeping a few ready-to-heat meals on hand for nights when cooking isn't happening, grabbing a quick breakfast before heading out the door, or stocking up on protein-packed snacks for the afternoon slump.

The idea is simple: make the better choice the easier choice.

    Make convenience work for you
There’s a misconception that eating well has to be complicated. In reality, the most sustainable routines are often the ones that require the least friction.

For Heights residents, that might mean picking up a chef-prepared meal on the way home instead of ordering takeout after a long day. It might mean keeping a couple of Snap meals in the refrigerator for those nights when the calendar gets away from you. Or it could simply mean having a convenient option available when cooking from scratch isn't realistic.

Because sometimes “healthy eating” looks less like an elaborate Sunday meal-prep session and more like having dinner handled before you even get home.

You can still eat like a foodie
Eating well doesn't mean giving up the foods you love—or turning every meal into a bowl of plain chicken and vegetables.

Snap Kitchen’s menu brings chef-developed recipes and familiar comfort-food favorites into a convenient format, with options designed around different tastes and nutritional needs. The goal is food that feels like a real meal, not a compromise.

And that may be the biggest advantage for food-loving Houstonians: convenience doesn't have to mean boring.

The Heights approach to eating well
The best food routines aren't necessarily the most rigid. They're the ones that work with your life.

In a neighborhood like the Heights, where there's always another restaurant to try, coffee to grab and plan on the calendar, having a few convenient, nutritious options in your back pocket can make it easier to balance it all.

You can still explore the neighborhood's food scene. You can still enjoy dinner out. And you can still eat well on a Tuesday night when you absolutely did not meal prep.

Sometimes, the smartest meal plan is simply having something good waiting in the fridge.

Snap Kitchen is located in Houston Heights at 20th and Rutland Street and at three other locations in Houston. New customers can use code CM50 for 50 percent off their first order of $75 or more through December 31, 2026.

Aromia will serve Neapolitan-style pizzas made with a sourdough crust.

A familiar Galleria-area space will soon be home to a new Italian restaurant. Aroma, a pizza and pasta concept from chef Salvatore Martone, will open on Saturday, November 14.

Located in the former Tavola space at 1800 Post Oak Blvd., Aroma is the latest concept from the Bastion Collection, the hospitality group behind Houston’s Michelin-starred French fine-dining restaurant Le Jardinier, as well as Cafe Leonelli and Aroma’s neighboring cocktail bar Moon.

Martone serves as Bastion’s executive pastry chef, drawing upon his experience working for legendary chef Joël Robuchon. While he’s primarily known for his desserts, Aroma will showcase his expertise with dough, fermentation, and breadmaking.

Aroma’s Neapolitan-style pies are based on a sourdough crust that begins with a 55-year-old starter and is fermented for up to 72 hours. The pies are baked for just two minutes in an oven that’s imported from Italy.

“We put a lot of time and care into the dough, but once the pizza gets to the table, I just want people to enjoy it,” Martone said in a statement. “Growing up, so much of life happened around the table: sharing pizza, a glass of wine, and being in good company. That’s the feeling I want to bring to Aroma.”

The menu is divided into traditional Neapolitan-style pies such as margherita, soppressata with hot honey, and prosciutto, and a “contemporary” section that includes carbonara, made with guanciale, pecorino, and egg; the affumicata, made with brisket, smoked mozzarella, and barbecue sauce; and the vesuvio, a calzone with sausage and beef.

Aroma will also serve classic pastas such as linguine vongole, penne arrabbiata, and pappardelle with vodka sauce. Appetizer choices include fritto misto, Caesar salad, grilled artichokes, and burrata with roasted bell peppers. Dessert features ice cream sundaes built around vanilla, chocolate, or strawberry ice cream.

Aroma will be more casual than Tavola, with a lower price point, a happy hour that features $15 pizzas, and plenty of room reserved for walk-in diners.

The restaurant will be open Tuesday through Sunday for lunch and dinner beginning at 11:30 am.
