HRW offshoot returns
Houston charity dining event returns with $25 dinners at casual restaurants
Houston Restaurant Week’s lower-priced companion event has returned for its third year. Eat Drink HTX takes place from Thursday, February 15 until Friday, February 29.
Similar in style to HRW, restaurants that participate in Eat Drink HTX served prix fixe menus at set prices of $15 for lunch and brunch and $25 for dinner. For each meal sold, the restaurant will contribute $1 or $3 to Eat Drink HTX organizer The Cleverley Stone Foundation, which will donate proceeds to both the Houston Food Bank and DePelchin Children’s Center.
Eat Drink HTX’s prices are significantly less expensive than HRW, during which restaurants serve $25 lunch menus and $39 or $55 dinner menus. The lower price point allows coffee shops, cafes, fast casual restaurants, and other, similar establishments to participate, but it also means that HRW’s fine dining staples like B&B Butchers and Brennan’s of Houston aren’t included. Still, there is some overlap between the two events, including B.B. Lemon, Craft Pita, Kin Dee, Phat Eatery, Roost, and others.
Several restaurants that have opened in the last year or so are also participating. They include Montrose coffee shop Citizens; Comalito, the taqueria from star Mexican chef Luis Robledo Richards; Echoes, the Greek-inspired restaurant in Montrose; Home Run Dugout, the baseball-themed entertainment venue in Katy; and Mimo, the East End Italian restaurant that’s nominated for three CultureMap Tastemaker Awards.
“Funds raised by Eat Drink HTX will help DePelchin Children’s Center provide guidance and support to vulnerable children and the families who care for them through life-changing programs like foster care and adoption, parenting and counseling, and residential care,” DePelchin President and CEO Jennifer Jarriel said in a statement. “This will ensure that more children will be part of safe and loving homes. We’re thankful to The Cleverley Stone Foundation for bringing the community together for this wonderful event and for honoring DePelchin Children’s Center as a beneficiary.”
Recently, the Cleverley Stone Foundation announced that HRW raised over $1.8 million for the Houston Food Bank. It will return for its 21st year in August.
