Bun B beefs up RodeoHouston presence with 'Trill Town' and tendies

Bun B and the Trill Burgers team are returning to the rodeo for the fourth year in a row.

Houston rap legend Bun B has become just as famous as a restaurateur. For his fourth year at the Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo, he's expanding his presence to be bigger and better than ever with a dedicated area called Trill Town. The performer announced the development on social media.

“We’re excited to make this the trillest Rodeo ever, introducing Trill Town and Trill Tenders to the best rodeo in the world,” Bun B said in statement. “Working with the Rodeo has been such a great experience for our entire team. We’re thrilled to be an official sponsor and have our own dedicated space, and I can promise you there will be some great surprises in store. We can’t wait to welcome y’all to Trill Town.”

Trill Town is more than a brand name. Bun B has carved himself a delicious kingdom by the Kroger Gate at NRG Stadium located off McNee Road and Kirby Drive This tented area will contain a live DJ, a bar serving beer and wine, and seating.

It will also contain, of course, Bun B's now famous burger. Since Trill Burgers started as a set of pop-ups in 2021, it's become one of the preeminent smash burger suppliers in the Houston area. Serving both beef and vegan burgers, it's rare to see the S. Shepherd restaurant (which opened in 2023) without a line wrapped around it. A range of celebrities have dropped by when they're in Houston.

It doesn't stop at burgers. Trill Town will be serving fresh-squeezed Trill Lemonade to help craft that perfect Houston cookout touch. Trill Tenders is Bun B's chicken venture, and it lives up to its brand. Served with Soy Glaze and Sweet OG sauces, the tenders are quickly developing a reputation that's as good as the burgers. For this year's rodeo, Trill is teaming up with Truth BBQ to provide two exclusive items: the BBQ Brisket Burger and Truth BBQ Brisket Fries.

Trill Burgers will also be available in the stadium at Sections 115, 135, 522, and 548

Bun B will be serving lyrics as well as premium food. As usual, he will perform with guests Friday, March 7 for Black Heritage Day on the rotating star stage. By now, Bun B's "takeover" of the rodeo is a beloved institution that helps make the Houston Livestock Show & Rodeo Houston's most enduring annual tradition.

Food experts draft the best dishes at Vietnamese restaurants in Houston

On this week’s episode of “What’s Eric Eating,” CultureMap editor Eric Sandler recruited five of his friends and colleagues to select their favorite dishes at Vietnamese restaurants in Houston via a fantasy football-style draft.

The panelists — Stevie Vu of the Chowdown in Chinatown Facebook group and Asia Society, Texas; Chelsea Thomas of Local Foods Group; Heights Grocer and Montrose Grocer owner Mary Clarkson; Have A Nice Day AAPI pop-up market co-founder Isabel Protomartir; Houston BBQ Festival co-founder Michael Fulmer — joined Sandler to draft Vietnamese dishes and restaurants in six categories. They are:

Appetizer/Salad
Entree
Sandwich
Soup
Viet-Cajun
Wildcard

In the first round, Vu kicked things off by selecting the sandwiches from Chinatown institution Nguyen Ngo. Thomas followed with the duck salad at Thien An. Clarkson took the mango-papaya salad from Old Saigon Cafe, and Sandler scored the Beef 7 Ways at Chinatown favorite Saigon Pagolac. Protomartir took the Duck House’s crispy egg rolls, and Fulmer closed round one with the beef rolls at Nam Giao, which holds a Bib Gourmand designation in the Michelin Guide.

As he noted, the draft results include some of Houston’s most prominent Vietnamese restaurant as well as a few under-the-radar choices that will give listeners some new options to try. Listen to the full episode on any podcast platform to hear the panelists explain the choices and recommend a few places that they could have drafted instead.

In this week’s second episode, chef Christine Ha and her husband John Suh join Sandler to review the results and pick a winner. Since no one selected their restaurant The Blind Goat, each drafter is on an equal footing.
