What's Eric Eating Episode 81
Dishing on Houston's best and worst meals of 2018, plus 2019's most exciting openings
On this week's episode of "What's Eric Eating," CultureMap food editor Eric Sandler is joined by five of his regular cohosts for a freewheeling look back at the best and worst of Houston dining in 2018. Six people means some crosstalk, but overall it's a fun look back at the year in dining.
The group — beverage specialist Linda Salinas, local dining enthusiast Matt Harris, Avondale Food & Wine owner Mary Clarkson, Urban Swank blogger Felice Sloan, and Fluff Bake Bar chef-owner Rebecca Masson — begin their conversation by sharing their favorite restaurants of 2018. A consensus builds around La Lucha, Superica, and Eunice.
From there, the conversation moves to favorite dishes, including the crispy rice salad at UB Preserv, the bone-in ribeye at Indianola, the butter cake at Mastro's, and the creative spin on bar food at Holman Draft Hall.
Other topics include the shuttered restaurants the panel will miss the most, their worst meals of 2018, and which upcoming openings they're most looking forward to in 2019. The show will take a one-week break and then return in January.
