It's a real Antique: Winner in "Name My Bar" contest takes bragging rights overcash
The results of the Name My Bar Contest to christen the new venue opening at 2511 Bissonnet (the former location of the now-shuttered Gallant Knight) are in: The bar at the corner of Kirby and Bissonnet will now be known as Antique. (A fitting name for the owners, who also own Vintage Lounge).
The winning name was announced Saturday night at Vintage after it won our CulturePoll with 16 percent of the vote in a tight eight-way contest. Antique Bar & Grill was submitted by Narguess Arjomand. Lucky for her fellow finalists, Arjomand only wants bragging rights, not the $2,500 prize. Arjomand is a longtime friend of owner Amir Ansari and says having a hand in establishing the new location is more valuable than any cash prize. (Plus, it already pays to know the owner.)
Instead, the owners will divide the grand prize as gift certificates to the other finalists: Kristi Coffey (B Bar), Rachel Brill (Rosebud), Chris Higham (Whiskey Park), Abe Ritter (IAH and The Lodge); Ron Marks (Village Distillery) and David Decell (25Eleven Tavern).
Look for an early 2011 opening with a kitchen to follow later in the year.
