After months of speculation, Little Bigs has thrown in the towel on its Hermann Park location, shuttering the spot for good.
"It was something of a mutual decision between us and and Hermann Park Conservancy," said Little Bigs co-owner Bill Floyd. "Our business wasn't always conducive to the park setting and between the city and the non-profit we didn't always have the same goals."
Floyd said that though Hermann Park is popular on weekends, on weekdays the crowds thinned, presenting a conflict between having the restaurant open all the time as a service and making a profit. On Sept. 2, Floyd told CultureMap that rumors of an impending closure for the Hermann Park Little Bigs were exaggerated and that he was working with the Hermann Park Conservatory on some changes to the format and hours.
A few months later, the relationship ends with the closing.
"We are looking to expand Little Bigs and working on El Real [Floyd's planned upcoming Tex-Mex restaurant with Bryan Caswell and Robb Walsh that's supposed to go in the Tower Theatre] and it just makes sense to keep putting the energy into that location," Floyd said. "Hermann Park is growing and it'll have the people to sustain a Little Bigs in the future, but we just aren't that patient."
The original Little Bigs on 2703 Montrose will remain open.
No word yet from the Hermann Park Conservancy on any plans for a new concept in the now-vacant restaurant space.
