HRW Sets New Record
Houston Restaurant Weeks sets another record: Whopping $1.9 million raised
Houston Restaurant Weeks set a new record with its 2015 donation to the Houston Food Bank. During its five-week run, the 225 participating restaurants raised $1,900,174.
"I'm very excited. We've all been working since May," organizer Cleverley Stone said on the Fox 26 news segment where she revealed the amount.
The amount represents a $300,000 increase from 2014. Credit goes to an increased number of participants, more widespread adoption of the $45 menu — which comes with a higher, $7 per meal donation — and an extra week of dining due to Labor Day not taking place until September 7.
Food Bank president and CEO Brian Greene added that charity will use the donation to supply approximately 5.7 million meals to area residents in need. HRW donations have allowed the Food Bank to expand the amount of fresh produce it supplies to .
"This is a huge number. We're going to put it to good use," Greene said.
This year's top 10 donation list features a new No. 1, as Masraff's and Del Frisco's swapped places. Two newly opened restaurants, upscale steakhouse B&B Butchers and the Galleria location of South African restaurant Peli Peli, also cracked the top five. The list is as follows:
1. Masraff's
2. Del Frisco's Double Eagle Steakhouse
3. Brennan's
4. B&B Butcheres
5. Peli Peli - Galleria
6. Americas - River Oaks
7. Eddie V's - Kirby
8. Eddie V's - CityCentre
9. The Capital Grille - CityCentre
10. Up Restaurant
