Popeyes lays it on thick with debut of over-the-top Loaded Cajun Fries with Cajun Gravy

This week I reached out for an order of Loaded Cajun Fries featuring Cajun Gravy, new from N’Orleans-style, country cookin’ Popeyes Louisiana Kitchen, with 2,600 restaurants coast to coast and dotting the globe.
I liked it better when it was just Popeyes Chicken ‘n’ Biscuits, but time marches on and menus expand. I still think biscuits are the best thing on Popeyes’ menu and deserve their name in lights.
Cajun Fries, a long-standing favorite on Popeyes’ board, are just regular fries boosted with a dusting of mild Cajun seasoning. Loaded Cajun Fries featuring Cajun Gravy are something else entirely.
And what’s with “featuring” Cajun gravy? Since when does gravy have a Hollywood agent worried about star billing? “And the Oscar for Best Supporting Condiment goes to … “
Here’s the Cajun Fries featuring Cajun Gravy breakdown
A big ol’ mess of Popeyes’ Cajun fries topped with shredded cheddar and bacon bits and sogged up with white creamy gravy.
Popeyes hasn’t posted the nutritional numbers for Cajun Fries featuring Cajun Gravy, but plain Cajun fries have 330 calories and 12 fat grams, so you’re already in trouble … and gravy is just going to make things worse. This is heavy duty gravy dripping with calories and fat. Manufacturer’s suggested retail price: $3.79.
Cajun Fries featuring Cajun Gravy is like the Canadian favorite poutine, which has flown south for the winter. By the time the cheese gets melty and the creamy sauce seeps into the fries, you’ve got a big gloppy mess on your hands. I wouldn’t suggest you eat this while driving, or you’ll have a big gloppy mess on your lap. And just your luck, the boss from corporate is visiting your office today.
Another reason for ordering Cajun Fries featuring Cajun Gravy “for here” is the serving tray. It’s a black plastic dish with a clear top. The top seals in the steam, which turns the once-crispy fries and cheese into sticky, stretchy, congealed sludge. I know, sounds appetizing, huh?
The thing is, Cajun Fries featuring Cajun Gravy are extremely appetizing. What’s not to chow down here? Seasoned fries, bacon, cheese, and creamy gravy – yum. If you want to really lay it on thick, order Popeyes new ¼-pound Popcorn Chicken Deal with one side (slaw) and a buttermilk biscuit for $4, plus the Cajun Fries featuring Cajun Gravy.
That’s a big boy meal that will have you wearing big boy pants in no time. Now let me loosen my belt two notches and take a short afternoon nap until, oh, tomorrow morning.
