Beloved Memorial-area steakhouse's beefy new store helps you grill like a pro at home
Meal kit companies like Blue Apron and HelloFresh have become popular with families that want the quality, nutritional value, and convenience of a home cooked meal without the hassle of hours of prep. While menu items like honey-sesame chicken and green beans or sweet and sour yakisoba noodles sound intriguing, sometimes all a person wants is a great steak.
Enter Taste of Texas. The super-popular Memorial-area steakhouse that has fed generations of Houstonian just launched a Grill-at-Home store that allows diners to take home its Certified Angus steaks as well as signature sides like macaroni and cheese and yeast rolls. All meal kits include the requisite seasonings and spices, instructions to guide home cooks through the process, and are packed in reusable thermal bags to ensure they remain at a proper temperature prior to cooking. The store also includes packaged seasonings and Taste of Texas swag like aprons and steak knives.
Best of all, taking the steaks to go allows customers to skip the wait at a restaurant that famously does not take reservations. The store even has dedicated parking spaces to get customers in and out as quickly as possible.
The new store is part of a million dollar renovation at the restaurant. Other changes include an expanded kitchen, upgrades to the dining room, and a corporate event space. All of which should guarantee that Houstonians keep lining up for their trip through the salad bar.
Prices are a little cheaper than dining in, but it's still more special treat than every day option. On the right night, a ribeye with mac and cheese certainly beats spicy zucchini quesadillas.
