Killen's Steakhouse in the Heights is dead: Is the Stella Sola restaurant spacedoomed?
Last week Ronnie Killen didn't sound very optimistic about the prospects for his steakhouse in the former Stella Sola space in the Heights.
"You wouldn't believe what I've gone through," Killen told CultureMap, adding that though he'd spent $45,000 on granite and tile, negotiations over rent and parking were at an impasse and without additional off-site parking for his staff, he wouldn't be able to make it work.
Now Killen has announced that, nearly four months after it was announced, the Heights location of his popular Pearland steakhouse is officially dead.
"They gave me a deadline of Friday at 5 p.m. to have the lease signed, they couldn't get the offsite parking done. I didn't sign it. So glad I spent 20k on a lease that was so one sided. Can't wait to start serving BBQ," Killen wrote in an email to Eater.
The barbecue refers to the upcoming Killen's BBB, a barbecue, burgers and beer joint that Killen is planning in the current Killen's Steakhouse location in Pearland after his steakhouse moves to a bigger location down the road.
Despite the building's issues laid out by Killen, we hear there are already prospective tenants looking at the space. Can anyone overcome the Bedford curse?
